The Mouse That Made A Difference:

In the wee hours of the morning in the summer of 2009, I was awakened by a mouse caught on a trap in my apartment. While disposal of the mouse ensued (Thank you James!) I stumbled upon the documentary, "Very Young Girls" on Showtime. I'm a Mom, Daughter, and an Aunt of 2 little girls. I was moved to tears by what I saw. I cried for the innocence lost in each girl, I was outraged by the exploitation but more importantly I was so inspired by the determination of these young girls to take control of their lives and change their courses.

It is my honor to donate a portion of the proceeds of This Road. . . Must Travel to GEMS. Each one of us can make a difference in the fight against Child Sexual Exploitation.

Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) is the only organization in New York State specifically designed to serve girls and young women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. GEMS was founded in 1999 by Rachel Lloyd, a young woman who had been sexually exploited as a teenager. GEMS has helped hundreds of young women and girls, ages 12-21, who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking to exit the commercial sex industry and to develop to their full potential. GEMS provides young women with empathetic, consistent support and viable opportunities for positive change.
